The clerk of the court's job is to help the judge. When the judge comes in, the clerk says, "All rise!" That means everybody has to stand up. The clerk works in the courtroom on a computer and may also answer the phone.
The clerk may ask you to take an oath. If this happens, the clerk tells you to hold a Bible or another holy book in your right hand while you take the oath.
