A witness is someone who saw or heard something or had something happen to him or her that was against the law. The witness's job is to tell the judge everything that he or she remembers about what happened.
Sometimes when a witness is talking in court, one of the lawyers may stand up and interrupt him or her to talk to the judge. This doesn't mean the witness has done or said anything wrong.
